Olympic Gold for Oxspring?

As the Olympics end with Team GB having put on a fantastic sporting show and gathering a harvest of gold medals, so our turn to try to win starts. As part of the Olympic Legacy funding from the Big Lottery became available as the closing ceremony ended. This window of opportunity to apply for funding, the last this year closes on 17 September. Over the past months all our efforts have gone into making this application to Sport England and its Inspired Facilities programme.

Hold the front page!

Friday 27 July's Penistone Edition of the Barnsley Chronicle featured a front page article on our progress after interviewing one of our Trustees and Secretary of Oxspring United Football Club, John Crowther. Comments by me and Yvette Slinn as Chair of OUFC were included, and they even mentioned Oxspring Parish Council's generousity in providing a peppercorn lease on the site. The main thrust of the piece, and headline, featured the safety aspect of moving changing facilities across the road onto the playing areas. Well done the Chronic!

Springing Forward in Spring

We hope to capitalise on support from BMBC's Mary Dyson who has identified provision of changing facilities in Oxspring as a priority in the Strategic Development Plan. Together with FA support in applying to the Football Foundation, application will be made to the Sport England Lottery 2012 Legacy funds of the Inspired Facilities who provide "off the shelf" predesigned modules to create a sport pavillion style building to local requirements. The expected cost for our requirements will be about £200K with some VAT and services provision to the site costs.

New Year and a new plan.

Following very positive talks with BMBC's Sports Development Officer, and linked to the favourable FA contact the Trustees have decided to go for a phased development of the Centre. In these difficult financial times we are going for a basic facilities provision of 2 large team changing rooms with toilet and shower; a social area with kitchen and disabled facilities; a small changing room with shower and toilet for officials and smaller group changing to utilise the new exercise track provided by Oxspring Parish Council.

New Direction: New Outcomes

Our OUFC Trustees have made contact with the local and regional FA and ended 2011 with positive talks which hopefully will lead to not just support but the opportunity to access the Football Foundations Grassroots Grants to develop facilities including changing rooms.
